First Garden Work Day Saturday

Help Carlson Community Services kick off the first day of the 2017 gardening season! On Saturday, April 29th, they will be doing a general clean-up, weeding and adding soil nutrients to the raised beds. They may even plant some seeds! Come anytime between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m to Three Brothers Garden, 4107 N. Pulaski. The organic garden donated 712 pounds of fresh vegetables to the Irving Park Food Pantry. There are jobs for all ages. If you have a rigid rake or spade type shovel, bring it along.  (Please mark all tools with your name.) Questions? Contact Rebecca Haneberg at rbecca63@sbcglobal.net.

Join your neighbors for Chicago’s annual citywide Clean and Green Day of Service at 10 AM on Saturday, April 22. This is a great opportunity for individuals and community groups to gather and help beautify our neighborhoods. 

This year Alderman Arena's office will be focusing on the three following areas:

  • CTA Jefferson Park Terminal
  • Along Avondale between Irving Park and Pulaski
  • Along Avondale near Lawrence

In addition to the supplies available at their office, the Department of Streets and Sanitation will provide rakes, brooms, shovels, and bags. Please bring your own work gloves.

Unfortunately, the majority of business owners do not understand what they are paying for or why when they get their credit card processing statement. This workshop is designed to introduce you to the basics of credit card processing: industry and pricing structures, interchange, line item charges, contracts, regulations, and how you can make simple changes to save your business money. Current business owners are encouraged to bring a processing statement so they can do their own analysis while new entrepreneurs will learn what to look for in a processor and equipment. Never be caught off guard by a sales call again!

Jefferson Park Forward Pub Crawl

Strap on your walking shoes and pull up a bar stool during Jefferson Park Forward's Pub Crawl. Back by popular demand, the Pub Crawl will be held on Saturday, April 8, from 2 PM to 7 PM. 

Bar crawlers will meet at Jefferson Inn, 4874 N. Milwaukee, where they will then make their way through Jefferson Park, visiting a handful of neighborhood bars along the way. The Pub Crawl will end at Hops and Barley, 4359 N. Milwaukee. Crawlers will spend approximately one hour at each bar before moving on to the next location. Some bars, including Babe's and Jefferson Inn, are cash only, so please plan accordingly.

Tickets for the event cost $20, which includes a 22 ounce mug. Food will be provided at Windsor Tavern and Hops and Barley. View the event online for more information, bar locations, or to purchase tickets.

Spring Clean Up & Art Dedication

On April 1st, the Six Corners Association is hosting a Spring Clean Up & Art Dedication. Community volunteers will head around the shopping district to pick up trash, remove graffiti, report potholes. All community members are encouraged to participate in the community clean up!

This yearly event typically draws 50+ local volunteers; it's a great way to get involved in the community and boost the neighborhood’s overall attractiveness for residents and visitors.

The morning of Saturday, April 1st, from 9am-12pm, volunteers will meet at 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave. for coffee, donuts, and supplies. Volunteers are encouraged to wear old clothing that can get dirty and bring work gloves.
