Restorative Yoga + Reiki for Vernal Equinox

Restorative Yoga + Reiki for Vernal Equinox

Spring is an opportunity for renewal and rebirth—for planting seeds to nurture, and to witness the unending cycle of grow and change.

In the Northern Hemisphere on March 20, the Vernal Equinox has been honored for thousands of years as a celebration of life and fertility; a time for striking a balance between yin and yang—and as a “spring cleaning” of stagnant energy that has been stored over the long, dark and cold winter months.

This restorative yoga sequence is designed to facilitate that awakening; to gather and draw energy inward, and then release it outwardly as a metaphorical planting of seeds. Class will conclude with a reiki guided mediation to help students set their intentions of planting those seeds.

No experience necessary. Mats and props will be provided at Wildlight Yoga, 4140 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Admission is $25. Pre-registration required. Members receive 10% off. No refunds or credits.

Jefferson Park Forward Art Show

Jefferson Park Forward’s Arts Committee is thrilled to announce its second collaboration with Weston’s Coffee & Tap – an art show featuring the work of local artist, Jessie Smith-Larson.

Please join us on Saturday March 30 from 1-3pm for our opening reception featuring light refreshments provided by Weston’s.

Jessie’s work will be displayed on Weston’s walls from March 23 through May 31.

In her paintings, sculptures, and installations, Jessie Smith-Larson creates fossilized stories of humanity. The moments that go unnoticed or become obscured. The end result is an exquisite, complicated story told, much like earth formations, through layers, deep crevices, and blankets of time.

Born in Panama and raised in Miami, Jessie Smith-Larson resides in Chicago.

Portage Park SBIF Roll Out Meeting

Portage Park businesses looking to spruce up their storefronts or do any remodeling are encouraged to apply for a $100,000 city grant through the Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF).

The $100,000 grants - not loans - can help business owners with a variety of building repairs and improvements, including improvements to windows, sign structures, plumbing, roof work, tuckpointing, electrical systems, interior build-outs, HVAC updates, and ADA upgrades. SBIF grants help small businesses and enhance commercial corridors by providing financial assistance for building improvements.

To be eligible, a business must be within the Portage Park TIF District. A map of the district is available on the Department of Planning and Development's website, bit.ly/PortageParkTIF.

Since 2011, small businesses in the 45th Ward have used over $1 million in grants from the SBIF program to make improvements to their storefronts and buildings. Past recipients in the Portage Park TIF District include Fischman's Public House, Oak Street Health, MCM Pub, Singer Factory Distributor, and Rasenick's.
