Now that the days are getting cooler and shorter, Halloween is just around the corner. To celebrate, the Irving Park YMCA is hosting a special Halloween event on Saturday, October 28, 6-8 p.m. Open to both members and non-members, their Halloween night will feature tons of spooky (but not too spooky) family-friendly activities. Retro Fitness is offering a children's zumba class tonight from 5-6 pm. This is an open event to the public. Members and non members can drop in for a $10.00 fee. Ages 4-12 are encouraged to join.

As summer wanes, autumn breezes begin to blow scattered leaves across the land... It's time for a Spooky Game Jam once again!
Supporters of diversity in technology, come celebrate a spooky game jam with the Voxelles, the Sugar Gamers, and IGDA Chicago! Developers of all abilities in the greater Chicago area will gather at 2112 Incubator of Creative Technology from October 20-21, 2017, to produce prototype digital games intended to promote the theme of the event. The theme will be announced at the start of the first night. The event will start with an introduction reception at 7pm on Friday evening, followed by the jam that will end Saturday night. Food will be provided both days, followed by a showcase and final judging of the created games on Saturday evening. Participants will vote for the "People's Choice Award" and the "Spirit of the Jam Award." We're allowing for an overnight session at our Spooky Game Jam for a total of 24 hours! Game Jams foster new friendships, increase confidence, and highlight opportunities within the community. We want to encourage new members to build their first games.

Chicago's first Culver's will be opening this winter at Six Corners. If you are looking for a position that involves serving delicious food, exceptional customer service, and a lively working environment Culver's is now hiring in Portage Park. They will be holding open interviews at the Austin-Irving Branch Public Library on October 18th from 2-6 PM and on the 26th from 11 AM-3 PM.

The St. Viator Student Council is participating in the Puerto Rico Donation Drive the week of October 16th. Items may be brought starting on the 16th and on the 19th in the morning and the 20th after school there will be a tent for heavy items. A list has been provided in the thumbnail image. Some needed items include but are not limited to:
Soap, deodorant, mosquito repellant, dental hygiene products, feminine hygiene products, compact generators (can be as simple as a hand crank unit), disinfectants, water filters, canned/ ready to eat food, first aid supplies, diapers (adult and baby), baby formula, water, clothing, battery-powered portable appliances.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation’s Open House Chicago is a free public festival that offers behind-the-scenes access to more than 200 buildings across Chicago. Explore the hidden gems and architectural treasures of Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods—all for FREE.

Baltic Art Studio and Beautiful Glass CHicago are bringing a fun, hands-on, beginners course, on the beautiful art of mosaics. This class will bring a modern spin on the ancient art and thoroughly teach students how to design and assemble mosaics. The course will have participants make two mosaics projects and will include instruction on the different methods used on each one. In terms of materials, all tools will be provided in the class. The materials needed to construct the mosaics will be part of the class fee. Total class time will be $15 and a certificate of completion will be rewarded at the end.
The class will take place on October 10, 17, and 24. from 10 am to 3 pm.
The course cost is $375 per person and that includes class fees, and materials.

Josi's is holding a private social event for special needs families. To bring your child they must be diagnosed with a physical or mental disability. Siblings and family are all welcome. Josi's will have a kids corner, 12 flavors of healthy frozen yogurt, hot and cold refreshments, pizza and lots of games to play. The shop will be closed to the public, doors locked for those runners and lighting turned down for those with sensory processing concerns. Pure fun and anxiety free.
