Transport Chicago Conference 2019

Transport Chicago Conference 2019

The history of Transport Chicago dates back to 1986, when the first conference, then known as the Metropolitan Conference on Public Transportation Research (MCPTR), was held. The conference's founders recognized the importance of knowledge-sharing within the transportation community, and wanted to host an event that would be easily accessible for researchers and practitioners based in the Chicago area. Since its beginning, the conference has been organized by a volunteer committee.

The conference was sponsored by the University of Chicago from 1986 to 1988, and by the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1989 to 1992. The MCPTR was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1993, and has become financially self-sustaining. Over the years, the conference program has evolved to include an increasing number of practice-oriented presentations and coverage of a broader range of transport modes. The “Transport Chicago” name was adopted in 2000 to reflect the conference’s expansion in scope.

Six Corners Association will be taking part in the conference and presenting along the side of Active Transportation Alliance, Northwest Side Housing Center, and TransitCenter regarding our advocacy work for better bus services and getting people back on the bus.

National Veterans Art Museum Triennial Veteran Art Summit: On War & Survival

National Veterans Art Museum Triennial Veteran Art Summit: On War & Survival

  • National Veterans Art Museum (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

With a focus on the visual, literary, performative and creative practices of veterans, the National Veterans Art Museum Triennial explores a century of war and survival while challenging the perception that war is something only those who have served in the military can comprehend.

Throughout history, art has provided a frame to create meaning out of the complicated experience of war, seek justice and imagine reconciliation. The NVAM Triennial draws on this history to connect today’s veteran artists with the history of veteran creative practices and their impact on society over the past century. The NVAM Triennial exhibition opening coincides with the Veteran Art Summit featuring a series of presentations, workshops, panels, and discussions on May 3–5 at the Chicago Cultural CenterNational Veterans Art Museum, and the DePaul Art Museum.

All the program and exhibition spaces are wheelchair accessible. The NVAM strives to make the NVAM Triennial and Veteran Art Summit as accessible as possible. Please contact Aaron Hughes <ahughes@nvam.org> if you have any specific needs.
