Six Corners Walking Tour

  • Portage Theater 4050 North Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, IL, 60641 United States (map)

Six Corners Association will partner with the Northwest Chicago Historical Society for the 2nd Annual"Yesterday and Today" exploration of the history and evolution of the Six Corners Shopping District.

We'll look at remnants from the area's early history as a crossroads, as well as the beginnings of the streetcar era. The tour will examine evidence of the district's rapid growth and evolution, including modernist retail architecture such as Robert Heller's nearly intact 1940 former Straus & Schram store that's now a burgeoning home to the Portage Arts Lofts including Filament Theatre, National Veterans Art Museum, Inside Out Art Studio, and The Chicago Ballet Center. Tour-goers will go behind the scenes to discuss how Chicago grew at a rapid pace during the early 20th century as well as its present day growth as Six Corners continues to transform and adapt to changing trends. The tour will also examine the surrounding neighborhood, and will include the usual mix of overlooked oddities, folklore, and more!
